About Mollypop

Hi, I'm Molly Humphrey, aka MollyPop Design— a versatile,
hands-on, visual storyteller with nearly 20 years of creative expertise. Art direction,
design, and branding are a lifelong passion for me. I began noticing design at an early age—outlining block letters in bold red and green for my lemonade stand made the signs “POP!” so that more passersby would see it and stop. That curiosity led me to study fundamentals of grid layout in Yearbook club and, years later, fall in love with typography while earning a BFA in Design from the University of Texas at Austin.

Since then I've developed a unique and functional approach to design, and I'm a self-proclaimed type-nerd. My aim is to organize
information into not only beautiful, but highly effective communication.

My first job out of college was creating scholastic materials for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (i.e. drawing slices of brains under the direction of a neuroscience professor.) It taught me about precision, discipline, and most importantly, rethinking ways to present information based on how people learn. Later, I was able to apply this experience to my first ad agency job, where I got a taste of building a cohesive branding campaign: translating a company's story into communication that made sense to its specific target audience. I moved to Phoenix in 2003 and began freelancing for PetSmart and other companies, where I learned the importance of designing within strict brand guidelines: signage, ads and collateral pieces-- consistency is king. After having my first child, and returning to Texas in 2007, I began working as Senior Art Director at a small Austin ad agency. This was the first time I worked on all parts of a campaign. Who knew an art director could also be an award-winning copywriter with experience in radio, television, print, and jingle writing?

In 2013, I created MollyPop Design with the intention of doing more meaningful work while working from home and being with my school aged kids. (My 6-year old daughter inspired the company name.) For my detailed work history and references, please see my LinkedIn profile or download a PDF of my résumé.

Random facts about me: In December 2016, I moved to New Enterprise, Pennsylvania from Lockhart, Texas (the BBQ capital of the world!). While I do miss real BBQ and HEB, I do enjoy the distinct seasons of the northeast *almost* as much. My other true love is dance. I have practiced a variety of dance forms from capoeira to aerial arts and currently teach virtual Zumba classes via Zoom.

If I were to write a book, it would either be about living your life with confidence as a woman with alopecia, (a very condensed version is published here), or a book of survival tips and recipes for homesick Texpats.
